The Goddess Within Collection
The works in this series take their inspiration from a variety of sources fusing many ideas to symbolise all thats good with femininity, nature, fertility and spirit. The lotus has been the lief motif throughout this series as a metaphor the Mother or Earth Mother.
Om Tara Mater Series - In the Buddhist tradition, Tara first appeared arising from a lotus blossom in the lake that had formed from Avalokitesvara’s tears. Tara represents the eternal life force that fuels all life; she exists in virtually every culture and is probably the oldest goddess who is still worshipped extensively in modern times. The title brings together many different cultures into one, ‘Om’ is the Buddhist chant, ‘Tara’ is the earth mother for many religions and cultures, ‘Mater’ is the Christian mother figure.
Samsara Series - “Samsara’ is a Buddhist term that literally means ‘continuous movement’ and is commonly translated as ‘cycle of existence’. In these works the lotus flower symbolises birth and rebirth through the fact that the petals open when the sun comes out and closed when the sun sets. Also a symbol for fertility, creation and purity.
The Life Force trilogy is a symbolic journey engaging the importance of the number three in many cultures. It combines references to the Celtic Triple Goddess (the maiden depicted as an innocent child, the mother depicting childbirth in full bloom and the crone, mother and child, a woman older and wiser).
Synthesis Series - a coming together of cultural themes of birth and rebirth, representing the three worlds, the underworld, the world we live in and the upper world.
