Printmaking is mysterious and unpredictable. It is my voice; it takes me on a journey to explain my connectedness to something bigger.
About
Joan’s powerful connection to nature and her local environment, often see’s her gathering foliage to create her bushland monoprints. Having grown up in a small town on the Murray River surrounded by nature and farmlands, Joan’s artwork has been heavily influenced by the beauty, harshness and fragility of the landscape. These surrounds also allowed Joan to appreciate the patterns and rhythms that nature creates. “Although majoring in both painting and printmaking, printmaking became my passion; it became my voice to express both lived experiences and interests for which there are never the right words. For me process is a big aspect of printmaking, it allows me the freedom to experiment across all forms of printmaking, which can lead me in different directions with unforeseen discoveries, creating amazing results”. Within her work Joan uses colour, line, texture and form to demonstrate her interpretations of the land, allowing for a more contemporary and abstracted sense of place. “By overlapping images and cultural themes, I invite the view to explore, connect and enjoy my artwork".
