CATHOLIC COLLEGE WODONGA – WORKSHOP HELD AT ART PARTS, ALBURY5TH & 6TH AUGUST 2024

I was thrilled to again be invited by Catholic College Wodonga and Jacinta at Art Parts to facilitate this workshop with the Colleges Year 9 & 10 students, and their Japanese Exchange Students.

My brief was to cover 2 styles of printmaking each day and Art Parts would supply all materials.

The morning session was an introduction to Relief Printing, in particular Lino Cut, where students learned the step-by-step process that took their initial design to finally hand printing their Lino block.  Topics covered included tools & supplies, carving techniques, transfer of image, registration and the printing process.

In the afternoon the students expanded on the morning session and worked on another variant of relief printing called White Line printing, Vietnamese Prints or Painterly Relief Printing as some people call this technique.  With this process, simple line drawings which requires less carving, will create better results. It also allows you to add colour with acrylic paint without the carving of a reduction relief print using separate block or reduction relief method.  The resulting print is a blend of monotypes, monoprinting and relief prints.  These prints are distinguished by the white or coloured line work around the image.

Two busy days, with wonder results produced and terrific students to work with.
